Cruising Area Moonfleet is based at Poole Harbour, on the English Channel. Our courses usually cover the Solent, but of course, we are weather dependent. The Solent is an area of sea located in the English Channel, bounded to the north by England, to the south by the Isle of Wight. The Solent is an area with complex but predictable tides and currents. This is the ideal situation for practising pilotage and navigation skills that are required by the RYA courses. If the winds and tides dictate that the Solent remains out of bounds for a day, then other training areas are used such as 'Dorset Coastal Area' which includes Swanage, Lulworth Cove, Weymouth and of course 'Old Harry'. All of the sailing areas that we use for training have many interesting sailing features. Harbours that we visit for overnight stops or for berthing practice include Lymington, Yarmouth, Cowes, Poole Quay, Swanage and Weymouth. Plus many more! We can of course go 'Foreign' and set sail to Cherbourg or the Channel Islands, but this is not normally beneficial for students who require lots of pilotage and navigation practice. This means entering and leaving as many ports and harbours as possible during the period of your course. By arrangement, custom routes can be constructed. For price and availability of any course or for a chat on what you need to do next then call us on 0800 0191 369
